Converted Church into a House / Family Home? Hello. Does anyone know the history of a huge house in staplecross road Northiam? Was it a church at one time? It has arched windows similar to that commonly found in a church.Living room seems to have a 'stage' as what might have been an altar? History of this road? Did it used to have a church or abbey? I'd love to hear from you! |

Six Bells Inn Hi Steve, my name is Ross Browning and I was resident in Northiam 1977 - 2003. The Inn closed around the time I completed at the Primary School so around 1988-90 ish, it then had a short period of inactivity and then underwent conversion and extension into a mews of houses Six Bells Mews where the streetname serves as the only reminder of the Inn's name. The small green with grand oak tree upon it and surrounding (private) crescent driveway is still there. I hope this information is helpful to you. |

Six Bells and Levett family Hi Jane, my name is Ross Browning and I lived in Northiam 1977 (age 0!) to 2003. Some of my relatives lived or still live (aunties, uncles, parents, grandparent)there so my contact with Northiam remains, I am also an active volunteer with the K&ESR steam railway that includes a station in Northiam situated at the 'bottom' of the village, close by the River Rother (closer when it floods!)and just inside the village and indeed East Sussex county boundary. Sadly the Six Bells at the 'top' of the village closed around the time I completed at the primary school, so 1988-1990 ish and following a very short time of inactivity underwent conversion and extension into a mews of houses called Six Bells Mews. The streetname 'Six Bells Mews' is the only reminder of the former Inn's name although the conversion was a little sympathetic to the pub's original architecture, externally. The small green with surrounding (private) crescent driveway remains with the grand oak tree upon it, exactly where I used to cross to and from the primary school each day for six years, thankfully escorted by Mrs B the Lollipop Lady! |

Six Bells and Levett family My father (Peter Levett) grew up in Northiam. I belive that my grandfather, Albert Levett, at one time owned or operated the Six Bells, and also Commons Wood Farm nearby. I visited Northiam in 1990, and scattered my father's ashes at Commons Wood Farm. Can anyome tell me whether the Six Bells is still there? |

Accommodation Hello to everybody! Me and my fiance are going to work in Northiam this summer. And now we are looking for a small accomodation from appr. Friday, August 10th 2007 until including Saturday, September 29th 2007. We are two nice and tidy students from Germany and we urgently need an accomodation at a low price. Maybe my fiance can help you in any technical problems especially with your car because he is a car mechanic and studies mechanical engineering. Please write an email to: S.Dierssen@gmx.net if you have any offers or ideas! Thank you so much in advance! |

Six Bells Inn My wife and I should be in the area next month, we'll look out for it. We live in California now, spent first night of our honeymoon in Northiam Arms (I think it was called that, but I can't find it online anywhere.) |
